10/26/2016 · The FAQ states running sa-learn user docker exec -it which runs inside the docker container using root, hence the bayes database is built in the /root/.spamassassin path inside the container. I am not 100% sure, but I believe Amavis is calling Spamassassin using the amavis user, and therefore looking in the wrong location for the bayes db:

you don't train amavis. you train spamassassin. they are two different pieces of software, which work well together. while training spamassassin is good to do regardless of if you are having a problem or not, blindly training it to solve a specific problem is not a sensible approach.

I am perplexed because it appears that the configuration I've placed in /etc/spamassassin/local.cf (a new score for a specific rule, for example) is ignored for messages processed by amavisd, but are not ignored when I run spamc, or "spamassassin -D -t" from the amavis account.

Amavisd calls runs spamassassin, so I used the pstree -aup to find out what user id was running it. It was amavis, so I ran the same sa-learn commands again, but this time as amavis. Here are the message statistics from each mailbox, which I believe puts me into the sweet spot for bayesian effectiveness (based on the sa-learn man page).
